II. Role Context
Role Overview
The Quality Assurance Engineer will design, execute, and document manual test cases in staging and production, provide clear production deployment sign-off, validate release functionality, and support continuous improvement of testing practices.
Testing Scope
Testing includes requirements review, test data preparation, functional and regression testing, defect tracking, deployment validation, smoke testing, production verification, and gradual transition of manual test cases into automated Playwright scripts.
What You’ll Do
As a Quality Assurance Engineer for USPS Customer Tools, you will work closely with developers, stakeholders, and release teams to confirm that application releases are fully tested, defects are documented and resolved, and production deployments are validated with clear evidence and sign-off.
The Quality Assurance Engineer will provide release validation support by confirming deployment and configuration accuracy, executing production smoke tests, validating critical workflows, reviewing logs and system alerts, documenting evidence, and communicating clear production sign-off recommendations to stakeholders.
Over time, the engineer will transition repeatable manual test cases into Playwright automated scripts, helping build and maintain a reliable automated regression suite that improves release confidence and testing efficiency.
Responsibilities

- Log, track, and prioritize defects found in staging and production using ALM and VersionOne.
- Collaborate with developers to verify defect fixes in staging and production.
- Validate deployments and configurations in staging and production environments.
- Execute smoke tests in production to confirm basic functionality post-deployment.
- Monitor application logs and system alerts for issues and escalate findings as needed.
- Document test results with detailed evidence, steps performed, test coverage, outstanding issues, and production sign-off information.
- Create and manage automated regression tests using Playwright as manual test cases mature.
Testing Activities Include
- Functional Testing: Design and execute test cases to validate documented requirements and critical workflows.
- Regression Testing: Confirm new changes do not negatively impact existing application functionality.
- Smoke Testing: Execute production smoke tests after deployment to confirm basic application functionality.
- Sanity Testing: Validate key workflows in staging and production following releases or configuration changes.
